Free pattern: Blue King Cabled Mitts
Blue King Cabled Mitts
Fingerless mittens with an easy cabled part for embellishment and extra good fit. A fun, easy and fast knit to warm your hands, or the hands of a loved one. An opportunity to use that delicious soft thin alpaca yarn or perhaps some of your sock yarn.
Materials:
Use a fingering weight sock yarn or alpaca.
I have used
1. pair: Inca Alpakka, 100% superfine alpaca, 175 m (191 yards) pr. 50 g (1.76 ounce). Amount used: 25 g (~100 yards)
2. pair: Silja Sock yarn, 80% wool, 20% nylon, 150 m (164 yards) pr. 50 g (1.76 ounce). Amount used: 35 g (~115 yards)
Needles: dpns or magic loop 3.5 mm (US 4). Cable needle (cn).
Stitch marker.
Gauge: 16 sts = 5 cm (2 inches) in 2x2 rib
Skill level: Intermediate
Note: This will make a womans small/medium size. It is very stretchy due to the ribbing, but you could use a bigger/smaller needle size, thicker/thinner yarn or adjust the stitch count to get a different size. Length of finished mitt: 18-19 cm (about 7 inches).
The pattern calls for knitting in the round but could easily be knitted flat.
Left Mitten:
Cast on 48 sts.
If you are using dpns divide into 3 needles: 24 sts (back), 12 sts + 12 sts (palm). Place a marker to mark the beginning of the round.
Knit * p2, k2 * rib for 20 rounds.
Start knitting the pattern for the back of your hand (24 sts), continue with rib for the palm (12 + 12 sts).
Row 16: When you have knitted round 15 of the pattern, make an opening for the thumb by turning your work and knit back and fort. Make sure that you have the thumb opening on the right side of your mitten.
Continue with the cable pattern on the right side (RS), replace knits with purls and purls with knits on the wrong side.
Complete the pattern.
Continue in * p2, k2 * rib for 5 more rows, ending with a RS row. Reattach and start knitting in the round again.
Knit * p2, k2 * rib for 10 rounds.
Cast off loosely.
Right Mitten:
Cast on 48 sts.
If you are using dpns divide into 3 needles: 12 sts + 12 sts (palm), 24 sts (back). Place a marker to mark the beginning of the round.
Knit * k2, p2 * rib for 20 rounds.
Continue with rib for the palm of your hand (12 + 12 sts). Start knitting the pattern for the back of your hand (24 sts).
Note: Skip the first two purl sts in the pattern (every round), and add two purl sts at the end of the pattern, to make symmetry with the left mitten.
Row 16: When you have knitted round 15 of the pattern, make an opening for the thumb by turning your work and knit back and fort. Make sure that you have the thumb opening on the left side of your mitten.
Continue with the cable pattern on the right side (RS), replace knits with purls and purls with knits on the wrong side.

Knit * k2, p2 * rib for 10 rounds.
Cast off loosely.
Finishing: Weave in all ends.

På norsk (Norwegian only)
Riktig god helg!

Talia's Wings
SockMadness part3 is over for me, and I made it to the next round.
Talia's Wings:
I used about 20 hours knitting time, others used 10. Wow - I don't knit that fast.
I'm done and I'm not knitting anything today. ;)

Remember Shalom?
Back in January I knitted Shalom. And - *tada* - it's finally blocked:
I'm very happy with the result.
A button from Granma's stash.
I've used this cardigan twice - a succsess in my book.
I made the opening under the arms much smaller than the pattern suggested.
And after blocking it fits perfectly.
Free pattern: Shalom Cardigan by Meghan McFarlane
Needles: 7.0 mm
Yarn: Sandnes Garn Alfa, 7.5 skeins = 490 yards (446 m)
Mods: Yes (cap sleeves opening made smaller)
Have a nice week!

Look what I won:
Beautiful stich savers from 5elementknitr.
From the etsy shop:
The smartest tool ever! I got two. One small one with a bead, and a bigger one with my name on.
One for my keychain and one for my knitting bag.
I love it!
Thank you so much, 5elementknitr! :))
(I won this just by participating in the Holiday Kal-Cal)

From the etsy shop:
You know when you're on the go, knitting to pass the time, and you've dropped a stitch. GAAA! We've all done it. Miles from the nearest crochet hook at home.
This is a little keychain for when you've dropped a stitch. It's perfect for your notions bag or attached to your project bag. Also makes a handy and useful keychain for... keys!

Blogging without obligation
I liked this and the following is shamelessly copied:
To read it all visit this blog.
*Because you shouldn’t have to look at your blog like it is a treadmill.
*Because its okay to just say what you have to say. If that makes for a long post, fine. Short post, fine. Frequent post, fine. Infrequent post, fine.
*Because its okay to not always be enthralled with the sound of your own typing.
*Because sometimes less is more.
*Because only blogging when you feel truly inspired keeps up the integrity of your blog.
*Because they are probably not going to inscribe your stat, link and comment numbers on your tombstone.
*Because for most of us blogging is just a hobby. A way to express yourself and connect with others. You should not have to apologize for lapses in posts. Just take a step back and enjoy life, not everything you do has to be “bloggable”.
*Because if you blog without obligation you will naturally keep your blog around longer, because it won’t be a chore. Plus, just think you will be doing your part to eradicate post pollution. One post at a time. . .
